I suspect that i am bipolar, but I’m wondering if there is a general age where people with bipolar start to show symptoms? I’m 14 and that just seems too young, but at least 85% of my symptoms match the information I found about bipolar.

I realize that this is not the best place to get diagnosed, but I’d like to have some kind of idea of what I’m up against before I begin the arduous task of convincing my parents to let me go to a doctor and get checked out.

People can be diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder at any age. I work in mental health and have seen many children under the age of 10 with the diagnosis. However, symptoms of bipolar can be very similar to symptoms of changing and rushing hormones from puberty, which you’re smack in the middle of. I dont mean to say you’re not bipolar – obviously, I dont know – but it may be something that’ll work itself out in time. Good luck.

yes it can be diagnosed at a young age. some children are noticed at the age of 5 but most during the age of 12 straight up until 18. during puberty parents start to realize that its just not a phase for the different stages(mood swings).
if your worried that something is wrong you need to talk to your doctor. chances are your parents will be involved so just go to them say maybe depression or anxiety if your afraid to talk to them. just be truthful with your doctor

I have a friend who’s 14 and he’s diagnosed with it, but all they do is give you drugs if you go to a doctor, it’s really better to stay undiagnosed in my opinion. But obviously as you say at a young age it’s harder to identify, especially as a teenager because you have all your hormones flying around! And it’s a cycling disorder, goes in patterns, usually so you’ll have to have experienced obvious symptons from mania and depression. Hope this helps a little good luck :)

i was a child and people would always say i was depressed.I believe it can start very early but people like my parents wanted to over look it.i think the sooner you find out ,you can get a hold of it and take care of it the prop per way.
